Traveling with your pet -

If you’re a pet lover, like me, then no way are you going to leave your pet at home. This can be incredibly rewarding but also stressful at times, if you aren’t prepared for it. Over the years my dogs and I have tent camped, truck camped, stayed in hotels and spent days in the RV. Below is a list of some of the items that I recommend to help you and your pet have a fun and successful time away from home.

Feeding Time

Feeding mat with included bowls. If you like to move your pets food off of the floor during the day or maybe move it to a different location, this is a great setup to have. Handles on either end help make this a simple task. The silicone material makes it easy to clean and will last. This is another set that I really like to help keep food and splashed water off of the floor. Again, it’s silicone so it will last and is easy to clean. Sometimes I leave the bowls on the floor when we are moving and this will keep them from sliding around. The 2 stainless steel bowls are included and they come in a variety of sizes. Leashes, Collars and More

Rufwear harness for big adventures. I love this harness! I have used it with several of my dogs and it has held up really well. I’ll use it on a hike but I also use it at camp when the dogs are on a longer line. It keeps them safe and secure but if they do pull hard then it’s not going to choke them like a collar will. It is a little more expensive than other harnesses but the quality is excellent. It has just enough padding to be comfortable but not bulky and the all of the hardware is very durable. Cooling vest for hot adventures. This may seem like a splurge for some but if you live or camp in hot areas then your dog will thank you! The vest zips on snug and is made of a material that you soak with water, which slowly evaporates. Sometimes I have used it just hanging out at camp on a hot day. My big boy, Taz, didn’t do well with the heat but this made a big difference in keeping him comfortable. Check it out HERE

LED collar for night adventures. Just to be clear, this is not a regular collar that you hook to a leash. This is just a collar to slip on your pet at night to make them visible. I’ve tried a couple of different LED collars but I haven’t found one that I like very much yet. And, since we already have favorite collars or the harness then this is an easy way to light up the pups at night. This one is waterproof and rechargeable. Get one HERE

There are so many options for dog leashes but this is one that I like to keep in the RV. It’s simple and does exactly what you need. The best part is the “traffic handle” so that you can reach down and get control of your dog much more easily. Both handles are padded as well. The days of not having this extra handle and having to wrap your leash around your arm, get rope burn, get tangled up or not get control of the situation are gone! Choose your color HERE

Dog tie out. Just like leashes, you’ll find all sorts of options for securing your dog outside. For years I used an old climbing rope and a couple of carabiners. This rope is the same idea but in one nice neat package. I like using rope better than cable because the cable is a hassle to deal with, heavier and it can be harsher rubbing on the dogs. Here is another good option for tethering your pup. This system from Ruffwear provides a line that can stretch between to points, like trees, an RV and a tree or fence posts. The line can be tethered high and then another line goes from that rope to your dog. This allows your pup to move back and forth on the line without getting tangled, and giving them more room room roam while still being secured. Look HERE for more details on this excellent system.
